Potential and Kinetic Energy
What is it?
Potential energy is stored energy in an object. It is the energy of an object in relation to its position. Kinetic energy is moving energy, the amount of energy an object has due to motion.
Example: A rock is sitting on a cliff initially and then falls off and hits the ground 100 feet below. Initially, the rock contains only Potential Energy as it is at rest and elevated. The Potential Energy is transformed into Kinetic Energy as the rock falls and plummets down to the ground.
